Italian hotels, especially small ones, are notorious for responding slowly, and often do not respond at all if they have no space. Particularly if your lead time is short, call or fax. See Finding and Booking Hotels on the Internet.
Location is the most important factor, for us, in choosing a hotel. You'll may find ATAC's address finder and mapping site a useful tool.
-- these are the hotels we've used
that we think you might enjoy
-- prices in Italian lire (ITL) and approximate euros (EUR)
Check today's exchange rate
-- unless noted, prices are per room for a 'double'
-- assure when you book you understand whether the rate quoted is per room
or per person, with or without meals
-- most prices in Rome will not include breakfast or any other meals, with
exceptions
-- some hotels update prices infrequently
so you should consider prices below as 'representative'
-- see our hotel information page if you have
questions about hotel terms like EP, MAP, half-pension, American plan, stars, moderate
first class, superior deluxe or single, double, triple, twin, quad, etc.

Residence}. Our favorite (only 28 rooms - bookings very difficult). Restored villa.
Negative: requires check or cash advance deposit.
Lots of wood, fine rugs, antiques; walls on the guest room floors covered with fine wallpaper and old etchings of Rome sights. Pleasant, helpful staff. Redecorated rooms renovated about 1986-7. Smallish (European size) rooms. (A few larger, one or two cramped.) Good location two blocks from main part of via Veneto. Front desk staff accommodating. We love it. Popular with knowledgeable Europeans, now many Americans as well.
Price includes breakfast (fairly unusual in Rome), and the breakfast is an 'American breakfast buffet', (includes eggs and bacon) rare indeed in Italy. Lounges and an 'American bar' to facilitate planning the next day's acvities after dinner. One of the better buys in Europe, and as good a value as one can get in Rome. Reserve early as it's often sold out three months in advance.

Headquarters of The Gestapo during war. Great location on via Veneto. Now a Westin
affiliate. Some evidence it is becoming less popular, and obtaining much of its business
from groups and cruises.

phone 39-06-8495 fax 39-06-8841104. Relatively new (perhaps 1988 - but new for
Rome) decent location at the edge of the large park at the end of the Via Veneto. Smallish
(typical for Europe, especially modern) rooms. Often better price deals available,
especially on weekends.
