There was an art project that consisted of a blue neon spiral which may not have been great art, but did provide a certain eerieness to the scene.

This is something of a joke, because you had to crane 'way out the small bathroom window to see this view, but we were within sight of the Forum. The trees nicely screen off the buildings. We were in Room 424 of the Hotel Albergo Romano on Largo Corrado Ricci

This was from the bedroom window - again, you had to work to get this view. Old stuff!

The side entrance, on Pisazza San Giovanni. We were here twice and were not impressed with the church, which the guidebooks said rivalled St. Peter's. Then we found out that we were at the side door...

There's the main facade. OK, now it's starting to look impressive.

On our way in to Mass on Sunday morning. We lucked out and got the Mass said by the deputy bishop.

The gold columns. They're gilded Corinthian columns cast in bronze, 24 feet tall. Lisa was looking around for the Michelangelo Moses. Bill finally took the guidebook and pointed out that it is in Peter In Chains, not St. John Lateran. From here we literally had to run, because we had a ticket for Domus Aurea at 1:40 and the churches are only open until 1:30 on Sundays. On the way, we stopped at San Clemente and went down to see the 3rd century basilica and the 1st century Mithraic temple underneath - in the 15 minutes we could spare!
