Arco degli Acetari 05/21/2003 We saw this place on the Scala Reale tour, and I went back on Wednesday morning while Lisa was at the Papal audience. The neighborhoods at our end of the Campo de' Fiori are medieval. This is the courtyard of the Aceti, who sold water by the flask in the Middle Ages. It is not clear whether the water was mixed with vinegar to purify it, but vinegar seems to have been involved somehow. |

Campo de' Fiori 05/21/2003 The market is ending, and the vendors are just beginning to pack their booths onto their carts. Most of them used carts like this, although a few had small trucks. This happened every day around 1:30. |

Campo de' Fiori 05/21/2003 The piazza looked like this around 2:30-3:00 every day. The market has been taken down, the pavement swept, and the restaurants are just starting to put out their tables and chairs under their awnings. |
